Best in Class Casting
Sioux City Foundry is voted Best in Class Casting, a casting competition by the American Foundry Society (AFS) and featured in Metal Casting Design & Purchasing. This 1,100 lb. ductile iron casting was converted from a nine-piece weldment. The component provides a guide for the slide on structural tubing in a piece of equipment used to crush cars. The customer was losing a pricing war with a competitor and targeted the guide to cut costs. The cast part eliminated many of the finishing requirements of the weldment and is 600 lbs. lighter with no sacrifice in strenth. The customer realized a $1,500 cost reduction.
